Health Minister Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari is stepping down, and Mansour Bin Ibrahim Bin Saad Al Mahmoud will assume the role.

Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari is stepping down from a prominent position in Qatar’s healthcare sector. She held the post of Health Minister, a ministry where many expatriate women, including those from India, are employed. Al Kuwari, known for her close relationship with employees, including Malayali staff, is stepping down from a role that made her an approachable figure within the Ministry of Health.

Al Kuwari’s departure may not be comforting news for many, especially those working at Hamad Medical Corporation, where she had built a strong rapport with Indian staff members. Under her leadership, Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health advanced significantly, with her efforts and preventive measures during the COVID-19 period earning widespread praise. She was often at the forefront, extending support to the Indian community in Qatar during challenging times.

Al Kuwari, who gained notable recognition as a minister, ranked 20th among the 100 most powerful Arab women CEOs in the Middle East in 2015. She began her healthcare management journey in 1996 at the Women’s Hospital under Hamad Medical Corporation. Previously, she had worked with WHO and as a freelance health reporter for Reuters News Agency. In January 2016, she was appointed as Qatar’s Minister of Public Health.

Mansour Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, appointed as the new Minister of Public Health, was previously the CEO of Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) in 2018. Al Mahmoud has also served as a special advisor to Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Chairperson of Qatar Museums. Additionally, he has held roles as Vice Chairman of Qatar Exchange and CEO of Qatar Development Bank, establishing a strong background in administration that has now led to his appointment as the Minister of Public Health.
